Upright Piano Knauss Coblenz 'Maker to the Emperor of Germany'. with exquisitely crafted cabinet and original ivory keys. Knauss pianos were established in Coblenz around 1832. They were renowned for their warm, mellow tone and very fine touch. They also produced some of the most superbly crafted piano cabinets of the period.
This piano was traded to us against a new piano. It's owner had it tuned annually and it saw him through the grades into Advanced Diploma level. We have replaced the internal tapes and springs and resurfaced the hammers. The case is unrestored, but in excellent original condition considering its great age (1877), with external natural wear commensurate with age, but no deep scratching or cracks.
The tuning pins are rock tight and the piano has a big rounded pure tone and presence due to its long strings, as long as a baby grand piano, and large soundboard. The Bass and Tenor are potent to the last note. It is solid and very well built, Coblenz was ahead of his time, a great German maker who used only the very finest wood and materials. A true piece of history that will play on for another century.
We don't keep trade-in piano at our Lucan, Dublin showroom, but viewing can be arranged at our workshop in Wexford.
