Newly restored and rebuilt German Schiedmayer overstrung upright piano with light responsive touch and full rounded tone. A nice instrument to play and built by Schiedmayer in 1914, a highly regarded maker of upright and grand pianos.
The case was stripped back, refined, and then resprayed in a Satin finish, giving the instrument a surface that enhances the appearance of the wood grain and the swirl patterns in the veneer, but is also the easiest type of finish to keep clean, requiring no maintenance from the owner. Brassworks throughout were brought back to their original shiny finish and the all felts on the casing and music stand were replaced (2020).
Internal mechanism called the 'action' was stripped, reconditioned with new tapes, felts, and springs, regulated, realigned, and the pins/strings removed and replaced (2010). The original ivory keys are cleaned and buffed and in perfect condition. Piano is tall with large soundboard and very long strings for greater depth of tone, volume, and presence. To play, it feels light, versatile for its age, and performs at its very best due to the amount of work carried out on it. The piano has a strong, potent Tenor and Bass register, and is not overly bright, with a nice mellow tone that is smooth and pure sounding, and overall is dynamic for its age. A good looking piano built to last centuries if tuned at least once a year.
Schiedmayer rank with the biggest names like Steinway, and are great to play. A true family heirloom which holds its value and is a pleasure to listen to. Comes with extendable warranty, renewed annually once tuned, new adjustable matching stool, free delivery, is tuned on arrival, and cost 100 per year to tune.
