Rare and unusual 1895 Gothic Style Vogeler, Berlin, with tall decorative case and original ivory keys. By far the tallest overstrung grand concert upright piano we have worked on in years, measuring 141cm in height, giving it a commanding presence in a room.
This instrument, with its large soundboard and extra long strings has significant volume when required, possessing a deep potent Tenor and Bass register. The tone is full, rounded, clear, and with a pure depth of tone throughout. Very responsive with nice weighted keys.
The cabinet overall is in good condition, with perfect soundboard and cast iron frame. There was veneer damage on top, which we have repaired, and there is minor wear throughout, but nothing significant. We have sanded, stained, French Polished, and waxed the most visible sections such as the key lid and top lid.
The ivory keys are cleaned and buffed, with one keytop replaced with a similar ivory match. Brass trimmings inside and out are restored. The internal action is robust as expected of any quality German build. We have replaced the Jack Springs and one Loop Chord. Upper half of the strings are de-corroded and cleaned, as are the tuning pins, which are rock tight, giving it a steady pitch and nice even tone. Piano was tuned annually by its owner.
